TRANSPORTATION
Intelligent Solutions for Moving the Nation ForwardTransport Planning
The transport sector has contributed positively to the
economic growth of Vietnam over the past decade and has helped
reduce poverty directly through better linkages to markets,
education and health facilities and indirectly through its
contribution to growth. In their turn, the national economic
growth and poverty reduction generate many challenges to the
country's transport sector. These challenges cannot be tackled
simply by improvement of transport infrastructure only. It is
also necessary to establish a comprehensive transportation plan
as a framework for the creation of efficient transportation
systems.
Furthermore, the shortage of resources does certainly limit
scope of the sector improvement in Vietnam. This has resulted in
a need for careful prioritization of projects based on their
necessity and urgency.
Transport planning aims at the development of information which
may assist decision makers in putting the right solution to a
transport problem in advance of implementation.
Transport planning typically comprises the following activities:
Problem identification, data collection, demand forecasts,
alternative solutions, estimation of consequences and evaluation
of solutions.
